See your beauty...every day!
Hello everyone and happy Tuesday!
This topic is something that has been on my mind for a while now, as well as something I have personally 'struggled' with over the years. Being a personal trainer and fitness instructor - I often have people tell me the things that they want or 'wish' for;
"I want to lose 10 pounds"
"I wish I weighed what I did in college"
"I want smaller legs"
"I wish I didn't have a muffin top"
"I wish my arms didn't jiggle"
"I want to look in the mirror and be happy with what I see"
.....well let me tell you something - you are probably NEVER going to achieve ANY of those things if you don't start with absolutely loving the person that you are right now.
A lot of us are not happy with our bodies, but our bodies DO NOT define who we are as people. Working out and being healthy are absolutely fantastic, and yes, you will feel better when you achieve your goals, but you need to start with loving who you are at this exact moment in time.
Now let me set this straight - I am not saying that you need to look at yourself in the mirror and just give up. Not at all! This is the opposite of that. This is looking in the mirror each morning and telling yourself "I am beautiful. I am strong. I am fearless. I may not be where I want to be - but I am on my way, and I am enjoying my journey."
Working out and getting healthy should not be a punishment to you or your body. In fact, it should be the opposite. You are rewarding your body by feeding it healthy foods and giving it exercise so that your body can help support you throughout your daily activities and provide you with enough energy to make it through every day without feeling tired and groggy.
1 Corinthians 6:19 tells is that our bodies are not ours - they belong to the Holy Spirit, and we are to honor and respect our bodies.
Proverbs 31:17 tells us "She works hard and makes her arms strong..."
So - coming from someone who has done a lot of body shaming in the past - I am here today to tell you that I love my body. I am strong. I am beautiful. I am fearless. I may not be where I want to be - but I am on my way and I am closer than I was yesterday.
I want you to join me on this journey and tell yourself the same thing each time you look in the mirror. Maybe you physically need to write it on your mirror - or write it on a sticky note and put it next to your mirror. But please, always remember that you are lovely!! When we work out - it is to be the best version of ourselves that we can possibly be - and to honor the wonderful, beautiful bodies that God has blessed us with.
